Fashion law is primarily related with clothing, fashion accessories, textile production, modelling, media, the
cosmetics and perfume industries. However, this field of law is also connected with other areas i.e.
intellectual property; business and finance, employment and labor law, international trade and government
regulation, including questions of safety and sustainability, consumer protection, privacy and civil rights.
The disputes arising out of contractual relationship are dealt with the terms of contract, generally there is an
arbitration clause and therefore Arbitration Tribunals have jurisdiction to adjudicate the disputes. In addition
to the Arbitration clause the legal or factual issues arising between the parties in relation to fashion laws are
dealt with the provisions of respective laws.
Textiles committee is established for ensuring the quality of textiles and textile machinery. The Committee
levies duty of excise on certain textile manufacturer and assess the amount of the duty of excise. Any
aggrieved manufacturer against the assessment made by the Committee may file Appeal before the Textile
Committee Cess Appellate Tribunal.
